Shooter Safety Rules for the Rifle/Pistol Range

Revised 05/09/09

    • All guests are expected to obey all range rules and commands and conduct themselves in a safe and cooperative manner.  Any violations will result in expulsion from the Shooting Park.
    • Guests are expected to maintain strict supervision of any children they bring.  No pets are allowed.
    • Shooters under age 18 must be under adult supervision at all times.
    • Eye and ear protection is required for all shooters, spectators and range safety personnel during live-fire periods.
    • Shooters may not consume alcoholic beverages before or during firing.  No intoxicating beverages are permitted in the shooting park at any time.
    • Any shooter may call a “Cease Fire” upon observing any unsafe condition on the range.  Please notify a Range Safety Officer (RSO) of any safety concerns immediately.
    • Rifles of .50 caliber or larger and full automatic firearms are allowed only with Range Director approval.  Any range personnel may deny the firing of these firearms at their sole discretion.  Pistols and Black Powder rifles may exceed .50 caliber.  No armor piercing or tracer ammunition is allowed at any time.
    • All shooters are responsible for the safekeeping of their guns and ammunition while on the complex.  All firearms must be in proper working condition and the proper ammunition for the firearm must be used.
    • Vehicles may taken behind the firing line to load and unload only.  The only exception is if the shooter is handicapped.
    • Firearms may not be handled or loaded until the shooter is on the firing line and the Range Safety Officer In Charge (RSOIC) has given the command to load.  At all other times they must be unloaded and the actions must be blocked open.  Barrels must be pointed downrange at all times.  FIREARMS ABSOLUTELY MUST NOT BE HANDLED FOR ANY REASON DURING “CEASE FIRE” PERIODS.
    • Staggering of the firing line (a shooter firing from a point behind other shooters) is prohibited.
    • Fire only at authorized targets.  DO NOT shoot at anything else or at another person’s target.
    • In case of a firearm or ammunition malfunction keep the gun pointed down range.  In case of an apparent misfire, DO NOT open the gun for at least 30 seconds.  Make certain that the bullet is not lodged in the barrel.  A lodged bullet can destroy your firearm and cause serious personal injury if you attempt to fire another round.
    • When a “Cease Fire” is called shooters shall unload, lock actions open and bench firearms with ejection ports facing up.
    • During the “Cease Fire” all shooters shall stand behind the black line on the firing platform until given permission by the RSOIC to go downrange.
    • During “Cease Fire” periods shooters are expected to help pick up all spent cartridges, paper and other debris that is near their firing point.  Please place them in the appropriate containers provided.
    • Shooters are not permitted to remove brass from the buckets.
    • No eating, drinking or smoking is permitted on the firing line or shooting points.  There are designated break areas for this purpose.  It is a good safety practice after shooting or handling lead to wash your hands prior to eating, drinking or smoking.
